Table This is 'figure 1' from the above talk which we were unable to include in the text. It is however worth drawing attention to since it shows that even using the skewed criterion of GDP (which is not a measure of social welfare) favoured by economists, the economic performance of former Communist countries has in general not improved since the introduction of free trade.
